JOB SUMMARY
Who we are: The mission of the Philadelphia Department of Public Health (PDPH) is to protect and promote the health of all Philadelphians and to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable. Within PDPH, the Division of Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention (CDIP), works to change policies, systems, and environments to make healthy living an easy choice for residents. The goals of our programs are to increase physical activity and healthy eating; reduce tobacco use; lower the prevalence of risk factors for cardiovascular disease, including hypertension and high cholesterol; and to prevent avoidable injuries, with a focus on reducing firearm violence. The Division is especially concerned about documenting, understanding, and working to reduce disparities in health.
The Injury Prevention Program works to create a safe environment for all Philadelphia residents. Our program currently focuses on reducing and preventing gun violence.
Future efforts will expand to address motor vehicle collisions and pedestrian injuries, and alcohol-related injuries and deaths. We work to:
* Support an evidence-based approach to violence reduction.
* Promote the safe storage of firearms, especially around children and youth.
* Promote opportunities for youth that minimize exposure to violence and promote safety.
* Partner with community leaders, law enforcement, and academic institutions to study what works in reducing gun violence.
* Monitor and study injuries throughout the city to modify prevention efforts with real-time information.
* Monitor and study the factors that contribute to violence and injury.
Some of our efforts include managing the injury prevention dashboard, convening a quarterly firearm homicide review, and crafting various data and policy briefs. We also collaborate with other teams in CDIP on issues that overlap program areas, such as building and promoting livable and walkable communities.

Join us! We are seeking a skilled Injury Prevention Project Manager to work on project management and evaluation to support several injury prevention activities. This position will provide support to the Injury Prevention Program by working closely with the Injury Prevention Program team, other CDIP teams, City agencies, and community organizations; they will report to the Injury Prevention Program Manager. The Project Manager will support activities connected with the Anti-Violence Community Expansion Grants, as well as project management for a variety of other injury prevention activities such as, but not limited tothe Firearm Homicide Review, Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program, and Injury Prevention Roundtables.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Responsibilities/Duties
* Manage injury projects from start to finish by planning deliverables and timelines.
* Work with grantees, program staff, and evaluators to ensure timely reporting on the achievement of grant goals and objectives.
* Coordinate with grantees to track progress on program deliverables and discuss barriers and potential solutions.
* Work with grantees, the fiduciary, and city partners to ensure receipt of required fiscal documents from grantees.
* Assist with management of the firearm homicide death review board initiative, including coordinating regular review meetings and internal and external partner data requests and communications.
* Assist with management of the hospital-based violence intervention program, including organizing meetings, monitoring goals and objectives, and tracking data efforts.
* Work with internal health justice team to help coordinate strategy development and implementation, especially as it relates to prioritizing health justice in injury projects.
* Support the Injury Prevention Program Manager in program development and implementation related to reducing gun violence, motor vehicle collisions and pedestrian injuries, and alcohol-related injuries and deaths.
* Manage the injury prevention project tracker and portfolio.
* Attend meetings and help with logistics including trainings, preparation of meeting minutes, agendas, and meeting coordination.
* Works collaboratively with team members.
* Perform related work as required.
Education
* A bachelors degree in public health or related field from an accredited college or university. Applicants with a Masters degree are also encouraged to apply.
* Two to five years of experience in public health work experience.
OR
* Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Department of Public Health which has included a bachelors degree as an educational minimum.
Skills/Experience
* Public health-related project management experience.
* Content expertise in public health, injury prevention, project management, program evaluation, and grants management.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to interact appropriately and effectively with a wide range of persons.
* Experience working with sensitive health information.
* Equally comfortable working individually and within a team environment that emphasizes collaboration in a dynamic health department.
* Ability to take initiative and follow projects through to completion.
* Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and deadlines.
* Ability to spearhead new and emerging projects with diverse stakeholders.
COVID-19 Requirements:
Proof of COVID-10 Vaccination must be produced upon hire.
Work Environment:
Standard office setting with extended periods at workstation and periodic use of office equipment. Staff are expected to come into the office; based on conversations with supervisor, a combination of in-office and remote work may be allowed.
Position Type and Work Schedule:
Full time position, typical hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
Travel:
Some local travel between sites to attend meetings.
Physical Demands:
Limited physical demands. Associate will work primarily in an office setting.
